THE annual extravaganza that is the Inverclyde Music Festival is well into its stride for a fortnight of fun.

This is the 91st edition, and it promises all of the usual attractions that have kept generations of children and parents coming back year after year.

A dedicated group of volunteers have been preparing diligently for many months to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Former Aileymill Primary head teacher, Isabel Lind, heads the team overseeing a multitude of vocal and instrumental classes for performers of all ages.

Many people from Inverclyde and beyond gained their first stage experience at the festival, and have gone on to a lifetime’s enjoyment of performing.

One of the test pieces in the category ‘songs from musicals/Disney films’ is the classic ‘Bare Necessities’ from ‘The Jungle Book’, surely one of the top Disney tunes of all time.

Perhaps the Festival could also think about introducing a class for James Bond songs?

This would probably be more suited to adult singers, but the Bond movies are recycled so often on TV that people of all ages are aware of them.

The most recent offering by Sam Smith on ‘Spectre’ may not sound great on first listening, but works really well while watching the film.

Is it the best of all time? No, I think that accolade has to go to Shirley Bassey for ‘Diamonds Are Forever’.

Bond would certainly give the festival even more of a licence to thrill!
