LAST Tuesday we got some clarification on what Brexit actually means.

The Prime Minister told the world of her key points going forward into the Brexit negotiations.

Her speech spoke of a ‘Truly Global Britain’ yet the very next day Boris Johnson, the UK Foreign Secretary once again highlighted the political embarrassment he is by attacking the French President and comparing him to a Second World War guard.

The Prime Minister also spoke of ‘…the preservation of our precious Union at the heart of everything we do’ as well as reminding us all that ‘Foreign affairs are of course the responsibility of the UK Government.’

This tells me that no matter what, if any, additional powers come to Scotland, then Big Brother Britain is still in charge and any international dialogue will still remain in London.

The issue of UK nationals living in the EU and EU citizens living in the UK is now clearly going to be used as a bargaining chip.

What the Prime Minister either fails to see or just ignores, is that the 181,000 EU citizens living in Scotland want to live here.

They help our public services and our economy. Furthermore, they are real people, not pawns in a game of chess.

Towards the end of her speech she talked of the potential for the UK to become a low wage, low tax, de-regulated economy. That would see a race to the bottom and many of my constituents would be worse off as a result.

It’s clear we are in for a bumpy ride on this Tory/UKIP Brexit Bus.
