LAST week’s scenes in London were horrific and I’m sure everyone’s thoughts and prayers are with the families of those murdered and also seriously injured in the attack.

I would like to wish those injured a speedy recovery.

No words of sympathy will bring those killed back. I hope, however, that the expressions of condolence and huge level of public sympathy will bring some comfort for the families and friends.

I don’t really want to single out one person but I will mention PC Keith Palmer.

I never met PC Palmer but he was undertaking his duty as a police officer to help keep people safe. I see that every day in the Scottish Parliament and on our streets in Inverclyde.

There will be many occasions where the work of the men and women in the Police, Fire and Rescue Service and Ambulance Service can go unnoticed. However, where would we be without them?

The tributes towards PC Palmer have been nothing but warm, positive and above all expresses a thoroughly decent man who will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

He has given the ultimate sacrifice in defending the right of democracy. I know society is all the better for the dedication of the brave men and women who work for us every single day.

It saddens me that London has once again been a target for terrorism.

Terrorists must not be allowed to win. No matter who they are and where they are from.
