LAST week we were informed of the news that Misco are to close in Greenock.

Up to 70 jobs are to be lost and this will be a devastating blow to those people affected.

I know that Skills Development Scotland are involved with Misco and the PACE team are in place to help the workforce who are to be made redundant.

The 24 sales force are to remain and discussions are taking place to find a new location locally for them to re-locate.

I met with representatives of the charity Leonard Cheshire Scotland. They have recently established an office in Scotland and are looking at ways to assist people with disabilities into employment.

If this is something that local employers would be keen to find out more about please contact my office for details.

I also recently met with a number of local business representatives last week and attended the Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce event at the Holiday Inn Express.

Both Ronnie Cowan MP and myself went along and it was another way for us to engage with the local business community to discuss issues that matter to them.

Finally, I was present at the re-launch of Safe-Harbour.
Safe Harbour is a local charity that delivers emotional support to their clients.

The organisation is well respected and I know the Scottish mental health minister Maureen Watt MSP was hugely impressed when she visited a few months ago.

Safe Harbour are so well regarded that there are people who are keen to deliver the same model elsewhere in Scotland.

This is a real Inverclyde success story and something we can all be proud of.
