GREENOCK pensioners are ready to surf the web after free internet was installed in their homes.

Residents of St Margaret’s Court, an assisted living complex in Grieve Road, and East Kirk Court, a sheltered housing centre in Regent Street, are connecting with friends and family across the world after free wifi was installed in their homes.

Bosses at Trust, the housing association which operates the properties, say that having free internet access is already making a huge difference to the residents.

To celebrate the occasion, the wifi was unveiled at a special ceremony in St Margaret’s Court.

Johanne McFarlane, who is a senior housing care worker at Trust, said: “The world has opened up to them with free wifi.

“They are now able to connect with their families and friends around the world.

“There is now a touch screen computer in the lounge 24 hours a day.”

Johanne says the residents will also have the chance to hone their internet skills.

She added: “We are going to have Inverclyde Libraries and Future Skills Inverclyde helping the residents.

“The tenants’ group are also going to try and fundraise to buy more iPads.”
