ON Friday, alongside Ronnie Cowan MP, I went to see Scottish Water at the outset of their £2.8m flood prevention work to help Greenock town centre.
We went along to get a better understanding of the work being carried out in the area.
This was a valuable meeting and I once again commend Scottish Water for investing this significant amount of money in flood prevention in Greenock.
There will of course be some short-term disruption in the area, but I know my constituents will understand that the long-term benefits will be worthwhile once the project is complete.
Afterwards I re-visited the Financial Fitness Team to catch up with them. They provide free, independent and impartial welfare, benefit and money advice services to people in Inverclyde.
The current economic climate is challenging with Tory austerity and Brexit impacting people’s job security and income.
It’s no secret, however, that January can be especially hard for those on a tight budget.
Therefore, I encourage anyone who is worried about their finances to contact either the Financial Fitness Team or other local welfare and financial advice centres for friendly and helpful advice.
I also visited Inverclyde’s Centre for Independent Living (ICIL) to obtain an update on their work locally.
They promote independence in all aspects of daily living for children and adults living with a physical disability.
They offer various services such as occupational therapy and have a Community Specialist Diabetes Team and an Inverclyde Community Rehabilitation Team on hand.
I applaud the work of ICIL and wish them every success helping local people.
