TASTY treats are in store on Friday when Macmillan Cancer’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning rolls around again.

The good news from Fran Woodard, Director of Policy and Research at Macmillan Cancer Support, is that, thankfully, people are living longer with cancer.

Last year the coffee morning raised an astonishing £25,102,796, and, as always, Inverclyde’s generous people made considerable contributions.

M&S is among the most high profile backers. This is the sixth year its Oak Mall store has supported the occasion, celebrating the 25th anniversary with special coffee morning badges created by British designer Sophie Conran.

Customers have been able to buy selected items, with 10 per cent going to Macmillan.

Other backing for Macmillan came earlier this month from Inverclyde Voices, the enterprising choir who held a 10th anniversary concert which also raised money for Ardgowan Hospice, Prostate Scotland, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland.

The big-hearted Voices have joined forces in the past with other choirs to raise £10,000 for Malawi and £6,000 for Mary’s Meals in Haiti.

Macmillan also has daring Inverclyde volunteers who have taken part in their ‘brave the shave’ campaign — getting sponsored to have their heads shaved in solidarity with people who have lost their hair through cancer.

This year’s coffee extravaganza features a new ‘cake tastes better together’ slogan based on the BBC’s Great British Bake Off.

Hopefully the show’s popularity will inspire everyone to rise to the occasion — and make lots of dough!
