I ATTENDED the SNP Conference last week and spoke in two debates, the first about Trident and the second was my resolution about marine tourism, which my local branch had agreed to send forward to be considered for the agenda.

Another local member spoke for the first time in that debate, which was agreed by conference.

The resolution is now party policy which ensures that the whole marine tourism agenda remains high on the list of tourism opportunities, which can only be a good thing for Inverclyde.

I also chaired a fringe event for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Scotland and appeared on a panel for Action on Hearing Loss Scotland to talk about their ‘Hear to Help’ service.

This service assists older people who use hearing aids to ensure the hearing aids are working properly.

During the summer last year, I visited Riverside Gardens in Gourock to learn about the programme and this summer I attended the Gourock Health Centre to meet some new clients who were using the service for the first time.

They found out about the service from their daughter who lives in Australia.

The service is delivered by trained volunteers and the clients were appreciative of both the service and the standard of care from the volunteers. Regular check ups can help someone play an active part of society.

If you want to find out more about the service please call Action on Hearing Loss Scotland at 0141 341 5330 or visit www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk
