ANYONE who goes abroad has to suffer the hassle of security checks at airports and ports, including Greenock Ocean Terminal.

Stricter measures at Greenock are causing worries that it will deter people from travelling on cruise ships and lead to fewer passengers coming here.

So how come we keep hearing about dangerous foreign criminals arriving in the UK and then disappearing?

How do they manage to get into the country, while millions of ordinary tourists are treated like felons when all they are trying to do is go on their holidays?

Border control officers in Britain, for example, stare for so long at their screen while they scan your passport that you wonder if they are about to detain you.

Then there is the extremely annoying practice of forcing you go through security twice if you have to change flights on the way out or back — meaning you unexpectedly have to ditch the outrageously expensive water you purchased after your first check.

I’ve seen people in their late 70s being put through a new body scanner at Glasgow.

They were having to lift up their arms and move around so much I thought they would keel over.

Clearly, they had ‘terrorist’ written all over them.

A vast army of security personnel has erupted around the world, only some of whom are courteous.

Of course we need security checks, but let’s have common sense so that we don’t drive away tourists.
