THIS week, the Deputy First Minister outlined the Scottish Government’s proposals, to the UK Government, for further powers for Scotland to create and protect jobs, lift people out of poverty and create a fairer society.

The Scottish Government has argued that the Scotland Bill must deliver the spirit and letter of the Smith Agreement in full. This would see the control of business taxes and the minimum wage being transferred to the Scottish Parliament as a way of boosting economic growth.

Alongside this, responsibility for employment law would help deliver on the Fair Work agenda.

These are areas which should be transferred to the Scottish Parliament to allow us to continue to grow our economy and lift people out of poverty.

Like all Tele readers, I was angered and dismayed to learn what transpired at Pets’ Corner. This incident has caused much anger and disappointment within Inverclyde as residents are keen for the matter to be pursued through the proper and relevant legal channels.

I have written to the Justice Secretary to highlight the matter, voice my concerns and to also ask the Scottish Government to investigate why the case isn’t being pursued.

Finally, this week in the Scottish Parliament I highlighted Inverclyde’s position in the marine tourism sector and how increasingly important it is becoming.

I also took the opportunity to ask the Minister to work with others and consider a feasibility study to bring the QE2 to Inverclyde. This would be a fabulous addition to the area.
