Looking for fair deal on petrol
Who is going to be the first garage in Inverclyde to say buy one get one free, meaning petrol?
I don't think so. They are so greedy, robbing the people of Inverclyde that there is no chance of that happening.
Tesco promised to sell the cheapest petrol in a three-mile radius.
As far as I can tell, Morrisons is the cheapest. In saying that, they are three pence cheaper in Paisley and Johnstone, so the people of Inverclyde are due a break. Who is going to be the first to give us a fair deal?

Report commentEvery little helps
The petrol watch in the Telegraph is daily highlighting that the drivers of Inverclyde are being abused by Tesco and other fuel suppliers in Inverclyde. The reason I highlight Tesco is that they have been allowed 2 Superstores in Inverclyde and should be leading the way but they are not even competitive locally never mind the 3 to 4 pence they charge more than nearby Asda,Sainsbury and even Tesco outlets.

Report commentIt is cheaper for the drivers of inverclyde to drive to asda paisley the price of diesel is £1.33 but the price in tescos/morrisons greenock is £1.35 and in the BP ( round the corner ) its now upto £1.39. Inverclyde is now 1 of the most expensive places for fuel and i feel that yes we are being totally ripped off and we will continue to do so while morrisons / tesco are the 2 main supplyers of fuel in inverclyde.

Report commentThe above stories are correct I have for some time now been buying my fuel out of town rather that fill the pockets of the greedy fuel stations.
The only way to bring prices down is to boycot these fuel stations.

Report commentI travel quite extensively throughout the UK and I find that Inverclyde is the most expensive place to buy fuel.Indeed, travelling to the south of England three weeks ago,I found that Shell stations on the M74 and M6 were 3p a litre cheaper for deisel than Tesco in Greenock.
Tesco in the south are selling fuel anything from 2p to 4p a litre cheaper than Tesco locally and if we bring Asda into the equasion,we are talking 6p a litre cheaper.
It is about time there is a national pricing policy, but until then I urge motorists to boycott Tesco until they bring their prices down to even levels within a 10 mile radius of Inverclyde.

Report commentTesco is the most expensive shop in the local area for a great deal of stuff, i.e.
sugar, milk ,bread, butter, soft drinks, and many more.
There was a time when "tesco" was the cheapest, but i'm getting old now and it's hard to remember exactly when!!

Report commentwow and we complain over here in the states that we are paying too much at the pumps. For a gallon of gasoline/petrol we are paying $3.79 and that what 4liters. so divide that by four and we pay .95 cents which is approx. 40p for you all over there. I am sure you all would love to pay .40p a liter. OMG cannot believe it thats just total gouging if you ask me.

Report commentthere's no point in putting all the blame onto the petrol stations, it wont be long until the tax and duty that's put onto a litre of fuel is at the £1 mark, the Westminster government has been over taxing us for years.

Report commentFuel in Renfrewshire and further afield is much cheaper. Why doesn't the Telegraph highlight fuel costs in Paisley and Glasgow and demand to know why Inverclyde pays a premium.
Do I smell something fishy going on? "You might think that. I couldn't possibly comment".

Report commentYou know, I often wonder if Tesco and their like play the same game with all their prices. For example, is a Warburton's loaf the same price in Basildon as it is in Inverclyde? Tesco deny it of course but then they do tell us that their fuel prices are, "competitive" I really do wonder. Perhaps they can explain why the same fuel tanker drops fuel off in Inverclyde and then heads on down the road to Kilmarnock and Ayr where it is sold 3p cheaper???? Oh and this kind of nonsense is not limited to Tesco, they all do it and they do it because there's no one to stop them...yet!

Report commentIt is not just the petrol stations that are kicking the guts out the town , look at the price for the buses greenock lyndoch st to grieve rd £1 70 p a adult 90 p a child , could this be because this is the main route from Port Glasgow to IRH and god only knows how much more we will be paying now that another bus company has be burned down.
How many bus companies are there in Greenock and surounding areas, ? must ask the council, they do still give out the licences for buses taxis etc ? Sure they do it is free enterprise ! is,nt it ???????????

Report commentFor goodness sake folks. Don't you realise that most of the new build housing is for the Glasgow overspill! Hence the prices reflect the most affluent and that puts the better paid in Gourock/Greenock into the 2nd division
And that means, we as locals, will pay more. At leat3% more on all food bills.
Yip Local politics can see no further than their glasses or indeed those wee envelopes.
Honestly, do you really think the local gvt takes into consideration your view over and above the economic one!
If you think so... then you are simply niave.

Report commentI totally agree. I go through to the East Coast to visit friends & always fill up there. The Morrisons in Perth can be 5p less. There is a Tesco in my old village in Perthshire that is usually 3p less than here.
The groceries cost the same - why not the petrol?
Even in Edinburgh I will happily go to Shell or BP because they are 2-3p less than Inverclyde.
Why are we being ripped off?

Report commentYou don't need to go to the East Coast...try Silverburn, Cumbernauld and other north Glasgow Tescos were they are all 5p less than Port Glasgow & Greenock but don't blame Tesco it was Inverclyde Council who granted their monopolising permissions and would not allow competition....remember the Council also also wanted another 40000ft Tesco in Gourock!!!!! By the way what happened to the leisure facility Tesco were supposed to create in their old West Stewart Street Store which we were led to believe was a condition of the planning permission for their new store in Greenock???
