For just two minutes, do nothing, just take time to think how far technology has come in the past few years. If you’re a bit older, you may want to take some more time to think back even further and you’ll see an unimaginable amount of progress in the way technology has managed to constantly move forward. When you speak to a few people who have been alive throughout all these upgrades to technology, you find some that can’t keep up and prefer to stick to what they know while some are simply excited to see the impossible becoming possible.

From phones that could only make/receive calls and texts and play a few basic games to smartphones that can do all the above as well as take pictures, watch movies and act like a mini computer – things have come a long way. And as if that wasn’t enough, you can get your smartphone on your wrist now with a smartwatch!

The same goes for television. Gone are the days of TV’s with huge backs, now you can say hello Smart TV’s, slimmer than your radiator! Who would have ever thought we could fit all the benefits of a smart TV in to a system so small? Everything seems to be going ‘smart’ nowadays, only question is, how smart can it go?

What the future holds We came across a post from Euroffice on 10 ways 3D printing will change the world. With this ground breaking technology the possibilities are endless. With talks of 3D printed cars coming out this year and many other fascinating projects, the main question we ask is how far can technology go? I recently started watching the show Humans on Channel 4, and even though this may be a little far-fetched, it made me really wonder if we could have robots helping us in our everyday lives - although we may have to shut them down if they try to take over and rule the world! On one hand, the future of technology does seem to bring many benefits. For example the story of this dog who was born with deformed legs having a change of life thanks to 3D printing. On the darker side of 3D printing there are reports that 3D printing of guns is on the rise – a scary prospect. A couple of years ago someone suggesting that they were able to print a working gun would have been dismissed as ludicrous but now it is a living reality. Not only is it possible and still legal to do, the guns that are being printed are even more a threat than their traditional brothers because there is the possibility they could slip through metal detectors.

On the other hand, if you’ve been to your local supermarket recently you may have seen an increase in the amount of self-checkouts in the store. These checkouts are replacing the average store assistant with many self-checkout machines being introduced with one person to manage them all. While this saves money for the store owners, more people have started to be replaced by these machines.

It’s amazing to see how far technology has come, while in the most part, it brings many benefits, it does on the other hand bring some cause for concern. Only time will tell with technology at the end of the day, will it bring more benefits than negatives? We will find out.

Let us know you thoughts on the developments and progress of technology.
