IS it politically correct to suggest noisy neighbours should be taken out and shot?

Possibly not, but it"s probably a course of action that has crossed the minds of many a person who has had the life harassed out of them by neighbours who are incapable of living quietly.

Inverclyde Council is one of the local authorities now clamping down on these menaces, in conjunction with the police, by measuring the decibels and issuing warning notices and fines.

Increased powers to deal with noisy neighbours have been literally a Godsend to many people who, for example, couldn"t get to sleep at night for loud music or were awakened from their slumber in the early hours by barking dogs.

I used to live in a block where the person above banged shut every door in her home before retiring for the night.

Maybe she used to work in a submarine and thought she was closing watertight doors?

You couldn"t nod off for waiting for the thuds. Complaints got me nowhere.

So I employed an echo technique.

Every time she hammered a door, I did the same. It worked.

But although the law has now improved, it still needs adjusted in relation to letting off fireworks.

The Scottish Parliament seemed to think it was doing everyone a favour by setting an 11pm deadline, but it needs at least two hours trimmed off it to curtail neds and their pyrotechnics.

Oh for a quieter life - is it just me, or do others feel the same?
