FROM our archives comes this picture of the paddle steamer Jeanie Deans saying farewell to the Clyde.
She was built by Fairfield’s of Govan in 1931 for the London and North Eastern Railway.
The paddler was used for cruising, largely from Craigendoran. Eventually part of the Caledonian Steam Packet fleet, she was sold and left the Clyde in November 1965.
The vessel spent a short period sailing on the Thames but this new career was not successful.
The paddler left the Thames at the end of 1967 to be demolished at Antwerp, Belgium.
Today’s picture is understood to have been taken when the Jeanie Deans was leaving Greenock’s Albert Harbour.
