MY page yesterday carried a 1969 aerial view of Inchgreen dry dock, the Great Harbour and the James Watt Dock.
This picture shows the new tanker Opawa at Inchgreen’s Repair Quay in 1964.
At that time the 63,000 ton vessel was the largest tanker constructed on the Clyde, and was taking on stores after trials. She was built by Barclay Curle & Company of Glasgow.
Pictured coming out of the dry dock is the new tanker Texaco Maracaibo, 90,000 tons. When launched by Harland & Wolff of Belfast, she was the biggest tanker made in a UK yard.
