Pictures: Dundee v Morton - Monday 26 December
MORTON turned the form book on its head yesterday when they went to Dundee and returned with three priceless points. Allan Moore's men defeated the Dark Blues 1-0 on their own patch for the second time this season thanks to a first half strike from Andy Jackson. But a superb second half penalty save from Dominic Cervi - playing his penultimate game for the club before the end of his loan spell from Celtic - proved just as important. It was part of a spirited second half show of defending which frustrated the hosts and brought their recent good run to a shuddering halt. Ton, meanwhile, savoured the 1-0 success with their noisy travelling support - and can now look forward to their home game with Ayr on Monday.
Pictures Falkirk v Morton Saturday 3 December
MORTON slipped to defeat against Falkirk on Saturday after they were denied by a magnificent display of goalkeeping. Ton created a number of great opportunities during the match at the Falkirk Stadium - but were foiled time and again by Michael McGovern. With no way through for Allan Moore's men, the hosts were able to escape with all three points, courtesy of a goal from the prolific Farid El Alagui early in the second half. MORTON crashed to their third successive home defeat at the weekend as Dundee triumphed 2-1 at Cappielow. Andy Jackson has fired Ton into an early lead, but Dundee hit back to claim all three points, leaving Morton fifth and now well off First Division pace setters Ross County. MORTON got back to winning ways in sensational style on Saturday by defeating Falkirk 3-2. Two goals from Peter MacDonald and another from Andy Jackson provided the three points against a Bairns side which had knocked Rangers out of the League Cup just days earlier. Ton's win keeps them two points clear at the top of the First Division table. Here you can relive some of the key moments in the match with our action gallery. Morton's next game is at Firhill on Friday night, when they take on Partick Thistle.
MORTON suffered their first league defeat of the season on Saturday as they sank to a comprehensive 4-1 defeat in Dumfries. Queen of the South shocked the league leaders as they stormed in to a 4-0 lead well before half-time at a rain-lashed Palmerston Park - with Peter MacDonald's solitary second-half counter scant consolation for the Ton and their fans. But despite the defeat, Morton - who will hope to bounce back against Falkirk at Cappielow on Saturday - remain top of the First Division.
