GREENOCK football fans were given the opportunity to grab a glimpse of the next batch of Barcelona wonderkids as Celtic hosted the Catalan giants at Morton’s Cappielow Park yesterday.

The Parkhead side have struck an agreement to play youth team matches at the Greenock ground this season and elected to play their UEFA Youth league tie against the Camp Nou outfit there.

Barca ran out 2-1 winners with both goals scored by Arnaldo Sanabria – a 17-year-old striker who has already represented Paraguay at full international level.

Sanabria, who is being courted by the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid, opened the scoring on 14 minutes when he raced clear and slotted past Celts’ German keeper Max Oberschmidt.

The assist came via a sumptuous floated pass over the top by Zacharie Enguene, another name those in attendance — the Tele understands there were around 1,200 paying customers — should note for future reference.

Enguene, 17, is a product of former Barcelona striker and fellow Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o’s Fundesport Academy and has been tipped for superstardom since moving to Catalonia aged 11.

Scottish champions Celtic, though, weren’t standing back to admire their opponents and drew level on 52 minutes through Scotland Under-19 international Denny Johnstone.

The hard-working frontman collected a Lewis Kidd cross and did well to quickly readjust his feet and bend the ball beyond visiting goalkeeper Joseph Ondoa, another Fundesport graduate. Barcelona regained control by the hour mark, with winger Adama Traore, a Spanish-born youth international of Malian descent, posing problems with his fancy footwork and direct style.

But it took a wonder strike from that man Sanabrai to separate the sides. The Barcelona ‘B’ squad member lashed a stunning 35-yard free-kick into the bottom right corner to seal the win seven minutes from time.
