MORTON boss Kenny Shiels has completed the signing of versatile defender Ben Sampayo on a contract which runs until the end of the season.
The Tele yesterday revealed that the Cappielow club had revived their interest in the unattached former Chelsea, Brighton and Chelmsford City left-back.
Speaking last night, Shiels confirmed that was indeed the case — and that he had just secured the 21-year-old’s signature.
The Northern Irishman told the Tele: “We resurrected the deal for Ben Sampayo and he has signed until the end of the season.
“He’s got a good pedigree having come through the Chelsea academy system.
“Ben gives us cover in both full-back positions and the bottom of midfield.
“He’s a footballing full-back and meets our style of play. That’s important.” The player’s representatives, Full Contact, posted a statement on their website, which read: “This is a good opportunity for Ben to return to the full-time, professional game and make a name for himself. “By signing for Morton he now has a great chance to play games and let everyone see what he can do.”
