The Morton manager recently gave Romario Sabajo permission to head back to the Netherlands for a week to see his wife and kids while he recovers from an ankle injury.

He also allowed loan striker Alex Samuel to spend time in Wales during his 10-day lay-off from a concussion suffered against Falkirk last month.

The Tele was at Parklea for a pre-match interview with Duffy when Sabajo returned on Thursday and also spoke to Samuel while in Swansea and the positive reactions both players had to this form of man management was clear.

When asked for his thought process, the Ton boss explained: “We allowed Romario to go home for a week to see his family, his kids and his wife, in Holland and recharge his batteries.

“These things are important I think. He could come in here and get treatment every day on his ankle, but at the end of the day it’s not going to make a massive difference to him.

“If he goes home and ices it and does the right things then the rest is more important for him, and psychologically it’s important for him to spend time with his family.

“If you’ve got a player who stays in a different country and he’s not seen them for a number of months, he’s injured and paying for his own travel, it’s a chance for him to spend time with them.

“It’s down to your own style of management, but I just think it’s sensible.

“Psychologically it gives him a wee boost and when he comes back he’s got a new lease of life and wee spring in his step.”
