MORTON boss Jim Duffy picked out goalkeeper Grant Adam as the star man in his side’s Scottish Cup success at Albion Rovers.

The shot-stopper bounced back from a blunder away at St Mirren eight days earlier with a superlative showing between the sticks at Cliftonhill.

And Duffy, who had praised the 24-year-old's strength of character after the 1-1 derby draw at Saints, felt Adam’s contribution was all the more impressive taking the wild weather into consideration.

He told the Tele: “To be honest, Grant made one error last week and it was only error he has made in the five games he has played.

“After that he played really well and showed great mental strength, and then on Saturday the conditions were bad enough for an outfield player but horrendous for goalkeepers.

“Everything stuck to him, his concentration was spot on, his kicking was great and he made one fantastic save towards the end of the game.

“I’m delighted for Grant and in my opinion he was our top player on Saturday.”

The Ton boss made three changes to the team that picked up a point at St Mirren, with Joe McKee, Michael Miller and Alex Samuel all in the starting line-up to face Albion Rovers at the weekend.

Stefan McCluskey missed the trip to Coatbridge through suspension while Michael Tidser was injured, but the change that saw Lee Kilday drop out for Miller was tactical.

Duffy explained: “We had players missing. Stef was suspended and Michael Tidser picked up a groin injury, similar to the one that forced him off against St Mirren, that didn’t settle down.

“We decided that because of the pitch we’d put Tam [O’Ware] at the back because he gives us that wee bit more aerial presence while Lee reads the game really well.

“Lee is good in the air too but I just felt that the game suited Michael Miller in midfield, but he got booked and I felt one mistimed tackle was too risky so we changed it at half-time”
