JIM Duffy reckons his Morton team have managed to put their stamp on the toughest second tier in Scottish football history.

The Ton were promoted to the Championship last summer and are currently placed fifth in the table with one fixture left to play.

According to Duffy, his side’s performance has been put in perspective by the fact that not only are Rangers and Hibs in the division but are also set to contest an all-Championship Scottish Cup final.

He said: “I think our fans have appreciated the effort the players have put this season in a real tough Championship. In my opinion it’s the toughest Championship ever.

“People will say: ‘Well, Hearts aren’t in it’. But I think Rangers have seen huge — huge — improvement in the last year. I think Hibs have hugely improved from last year.

“If you take into account the consistency of Falkirk and Raith and add St Mirren into the mix for us, which is every bit as difficult, then it’s as tough a Championship as there’s been in terms of quality.

“I think that’s borne out by the fact two Championship teams are in the Scottish Cup final. That tells you how difficult it is.

“We have one game to go but regardless of what happens next week, I think we’ve put our stamp on this division this year, and I think that’s an important message for the players.”
