LONG-SERVING Morton defender Thomas O’Ware has admitted he favoured last season’s blue and white hoops to the recently axed Ajax-style jersey.

O’Ware modelled the strip alongside team-mate Lee Kilday as the Tele exclusively unveiled the controversial kit last week.

The 23-year-old has worn a variety of takes on the hoops in his five seasons with the club, and says he personally preferred last season’s Nike design to this year’s departure from tradition.

When asked for his opinion on the now-abandoned kit, O’Ware told the Tele:

“Since I’ve been at Morton it’s always been hoops — I don’t know what it’s been in the past.

"I thought I would like it when I saw the picture before everybody else saw it — but that one was a different colour of blue with Millions on the front.

“I don’t think the one that was actually released was as good as last year’s strip. I preferred last season’s strip compared to it.”

A furious backlash caused the Cappielow club to perform a U-turn and give the supporters the chance to select the new kit by choosing from a number of bespoke designs.

O’Ware added: “Obviously the supporters weren’t happy with it, so it’s getting changed. They’re the ones who buy it, so if they’re not happy it’s only right they raise their concerns.”
