LEE Kilday has admitted his personal preference for Morton’s new home shirt would be the retro blue and white hoops on display in Smiths as option three.

Ton fans have been afforded the unique opportunity to select the strip their team will wear next term by voting on five designs.

And Cappielow captain Kilday, who modelled the jerseys alongside team-mate Thomas O’Ware, declared his support for the 1980s-style kit.

He told the Tele: “The one I prefer was the one that I modelled first and also wore in the photo when there were five of us – the one with the traditional blue and white hoops with the ‘v’ collar.

“Thomas and I went in and saw them and tried them on, and that was the one I felt most comfortable in: it was a good fit and I liked the design.

“I also liked the one Thomas wore [pin-striped hoops]. Those were the two I liked best, and the other three I wasn’t too keen on.

“But the fans getting to choose the strip is the best idea and whatever they pick is the one we’ll wear and that’s fine by me.”

A number of other players, both past and present, have taken to Twitter to express their opinion on the options too.

Former striker Dougie Robertson, who played for the Ton between 1983 and 1989 and then again for a short spell in 1990, backed Kilday’s choice and said: “Number 3 for me … Mon the Ton.”

But O’Ware, Ricki Lamie, Jon Scullion, Jai Quitongo and Declan McManus all favour option four, which is the pin-striped hoops with yellow side panels.

Fans can still cast their vote at Smiths until 7.30pm tonight. The ballots will then be tallied tomorrow and the winning shirt announced in Wednesday’s Tele.
