FORMER Morton loan defender Luca Gasparotto looks set to sign for Falkirk — but Jim Duffy is taking the move as a compliment to the Cappielow club rather than getting downbeat about the decision.

Gasparotto was farmed out to the Ton by Rangers last term and impressed during his 25 appearances in the blue and white hoops.

The Ton gaffer spoke to the Canadian centre-half and his agent and expressed an interest in signing him on a permanent basis following his Gers release.

According to Duffy, Gasparotto is believed to have agreed terms with the Bairns, and he views it as a tribute to the player’s time at Morton.

He told the Tele: “As far as I’m led to believe Luca Gasparotto is signing for Falkirk.

“He came and impressed in all the games and impressed enough for other teams to want to take a chance on him.

“We take that as a bit of a compliment as a club to the way we have helped players. Like most of the boys we’ve had here, he’s another really good young boy and I think he’ll do well for them.

“From our point of view, we made him an offer and we would have liked him to come back, but sometimes players maybe just think it’s a better move for their career and I’m sure there is no disrespect to Morton. It’s just a choice you make in football. It’s the nature of the game and you respect that and get on with it.

“I’ve got three young defenders with Lee [Kilday], Tam [O’Ware] and Ricki [Lamie], so we’ll go with that at the moment and if we feel we need to strengthen in that area further down the line then we’ll look at it.”
