JAI Quitongo has refused to point the finger at the referee after Saturday’s loss to Dundee United — despite the whistler waving away two strong penalty claims from Ton.

The 19-year-old striker was bundled over inside the United penalty box on the hour mark by defender William Edjenguele, but ref Barry Cook allowed play to continue.

It was later revealed by Morton boss Jim Duffy that the man in the middle explained that the penalty wasn’t awarded because Ton players ‘didn’t appeal ferociously’.

But Quitongo reckons it’s all part and parcel of the game.

He told the Tele: “We could’ve had a penalty, but to be honest it’s the referee’s decision and he’s not given it, so there’s nothing we can do about it.

“That’s the way football works, you appeal for it and you get it or you don’t.”

Quitongo also believes his side did enough to win the game, and he’s gutted that they couldn’t take full advantage of their domination.

He said: “We were the better team over the two halves, we had chances and there was a spell where they were under pressure.

“The first goal we lost, we should have defended better, and the second goal we were pushed so far up the park and we’ve been caught out.

“But our concentration levels were good. Now we go again this Saturday against Raith.”
