MORTON’S under-20s continued their fine form last night by crushing Albion Rovers 5-2 at Cappielow — after scoring four times in the first half.

The impressive win sends them three points clear at the top of the Development League West.

Jon Scullion opened the scoring with a trademark precise free-kick and fellow frontman Thomas Orr doubled his side’s advantage a couple of minutes later.

Midfielder Michael Tidser was named in the team as he continues his comeback from injury, and he got his name on the scoresheet too by firing home from 30 yards.

Captain Ruaridh Langan then slotted home a fourth goal before the break to leave a stunned Albion side staring an embarrassing hammering in the face with a further 45 minutes still left to play.

Rovers got some respite as they pulled a goal back just after the interval, only for Orr to then add his second of the night shortly afterwards.

Although the Coatbridge side had been left shellshocked by the onslaught they did manage to net a consolation goal six minutes from time, but it could not disguise the fact that they had been comprehensively outplayed by their hosts.

The result sees Ton build on their advantage at the top of the table, after rivals Ayr United shipped points by drawing with Queen’s Park.
