A BRAVEHEART boxer is bracing himself for a ‘auld enemy’ battle against England tonight.

Tony Orr, 16, who trains at Greenock Boxing Club, is hoping to be a knockout when he competes in the England versus Scotland International match in Blackpool.

The teenager, who is a pupil at Notre Dame High School, had to take time out of the sport after being stricken with a mystery virus but he is back and hungry for success.

He said: “I’m proud to be representing Scotland, I’m just back in the team after having an illness.

“I had to pull out of the British Championships but I’m back on track and I’m raring to go.”

He faces Blackpool’s finest Bobby Faulkner this evening and is determined to win.

Tony said: “I’m going to win 100 per cent, I’m on a winning streak at the moment. I’ve won the last six and I’m going to make it seven.

“Then my aim is to qualify for the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas next year.”

Although dedicated to his sport, Tony also wants to do well at school and get some qualifications behind him.

He said: “After this fight I’m going to concentrate on my school work. I would like to be a full-time boxer but something could happen and I might not want to do it.

“So it’s good to have qualifications behind me.”

He wants to thank his family, coach Danny Lee and his school for all their support.

Tony said: “They’ve all helped me get back on track. Everybody has been brilliant. If it hadn’t been for Danny and my family I wouldn’t be fighting now.

“I want to win for them, for all the hard work they’ve put in. I want to show them I can do it.”

His coach was swift to praise the schoolboy.

Danny said: “He’s boxed for Scotland before but not against England. He should do well.

“He’s a good boy and he works hard. It’s always a bit of a grudge match just like the football. It should be quite a tense atmosphere.”

His sister Michelle and dad Tony senior will be cheering him tonight.

Michelle, 32, said: “I get nervous when Tony is boxing but it’s good to watch, as I know he loves it and he enjoys the training. It’s good to see him doing something he loves.”

Danny added: “He’s got a lot of talent, I’ve quite a few talented boys at the moment. Ryan Ball is very talented too and Martin Harkin, 25, will compete in his second professional bout in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on December 11.

“The club is doing really well, it’s booming at the moment, we have lots of kids, youths, juniors and seniors and women’s keep fit classes.”
