KUDUS Oyenuga says he kept up to date with the Betfred Cup final scoreline with a tinge of regret that it wasn’t Morton taking on Celtic at Hampden.

Oyenuga didn’t manage to catch the game live on BT Sport - which Celtic won 3-0 — but the forward admits he still harbours disappointment that his side couldn’t quite get over the line against Aberdeen in the semi-final.

However, he reckons the Ton can’t afford to feel too downbeat — because that’s just how football is.

He told the Tele: “I was checking the scores, but I didn’t actually get a chance to see the game itself. It could have been us! But you know how football is, you can’t really dwell on things too much, you’ve just got to take the good with the bad and hopefully do well in the Scottish Cup.”

Oyenuga was frustrated that this weekend’s clash with Beith Juniors in the Scottish Cup had to be rescheduled, but it allowed him the opportunity to travel back down to London to spend time with his family.

He said: “We wanted to play the game. It would’ve been good for us to go out there and play.

“Luckily enough, the gaffer gave me some time off to go home and spend some time with the family, so I didn’t have to train on Saturday.

"I’m sure the boys weren’t happy with me going home, but the gaffer let me go back. I’m back [in Greenock] for Tuesday training because obviously we’ve got Beith on Saturday now. We’ve got to make sure we’re prepared for it and get our game ready.”

Ton’s No.9 also maintains that despite their recent form, his side must show their junior counterparts the respect they are due — or risk a cup slip-up.

He said: “I was looking online and I’ve seen that some teams have some really tricky games with the lower league teams, so we can’t just take it for granted that we’re going to win.

“We’re in good form. And I think we would rather have played the league game than the cup. But you know how football is, and with the weather, you can’t really change things. You’ve just got to go with it and hopefully we can take our league form into the cup games.

“I’ve said in the past we just take one game at a time, we don’t really think too far forward. But we would love to go as far as we can in the Scottish Cup, we just can’t go past Beith as if we’ve already beaten them.

“Hopefully we do the job on Saturday, and go into the league game next weekend against Dunfermline with our heads still going. And hopefully the rearrangement of the Raith Rovers game isn’t too far away and we can play them again and do well to keep our run going. That’s the main thing.”
