ROSS Forbes revealed Morton players didn’t take their foot off the gas despite Saturday’s Scottish Cup call-off.

Boss Jim Duffy and his troops were disappointed to learn on Friday afternoon that their third-round clash with Beith was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

But Duffy made sure his players didn’t skip a beat by holding a training session on Saturday morning.

Forbes reckons it was good to be put through their paces at Parklea instead of having a day off, because it keeps everyone fresh ahead of the rearranged tie which, if they win, Ton will be rewarded with a home tie with Falkirk in the fourth round.

He told the Tele: “The gaffer had us in on Saturday morning and it’s good that when you’ve not got a game, you’re still in training. It’s not like it was a week off or anything. We’re still going at it hard and trying to keep things going.

“It definitely shows the competitiveness of everyone. You usually play a game [on a Saturday] and you can’t imagine sitting aside or whatever.

“The gaffer definitely doesn’t let you drop or down tools or anything like that so it’s just good to go in and get some work done.”

Morton’s league fixture against Raith Rovers was originally scheduled to take place this coming Saturday, but with Beith’s Bellsdale Park without floodlights, the Scottish Cup game has taken precedence and will go ahead on December 3 instead.

With Ton in such impressive form in the Ladbrokes Championship, Forbes understands that disruption to scheduling could potentially have an adverse effect in their league games.

But the playmaker insists that while it’s not ideal to have the game rearranged, he’s just hoping to get through the tie professionally — and deal with the league fixtures as and when they come.

He said: “Well you always want to get the games played and it can have a knock-on effect in the league as well.

“Then obviously there’s the Raith game cancelled in the league, so you definitely want it on and hopefully it will go ahead this weekend.

“Obviously when you are playing well, you want to keep going. But we will still go into the game this week and we hope to do the best we can to keep our run going.

“We go into the test with a professional attitude and just try to get the victory first and foremost, but we want to play well too. It will be a tough game but everybody knows that and will be expecting it.

“You’ve just got to prepare for everything.

“There’s nothing really that you can actually do about the weather. When games get called off it’s not ideal, but there’s not an awful lot you can do about it.”
