ROSS Forbes believes his opener for Morton on Saturday against Beith Juniors was enough to put his side on easy street after they weathered an early storm at Bellsdale Park.

Forbes opened the scoring for the Greenock side after 12 minutes, with a clever free-kick that deceived goalkeeper Stephen Grindlay.

But Beith came bombing out the traps in an early siege, shooting wide twice and having a barrage of early corners to put Ton under the cosh.

Forbes said: “It was a good performance, first and foremost, and to score six goals is obviously always good. It could have been a tricky tie, but we went there with the right attitude to be professional and got the job done.

“We expected that [Beith would attack from the start], we knew that they were going to come out and give it everything. The first 10 minutes we did quite well and it was good that we weathered that storm.

“As soon as we got the goal, it settled us down a bit. It allowed us to relax and play our game to come through the 90 minutes.

The midfielder was happy with another goal on a personal level making it six in all competitions, and his fourth from a direct free-kick.

He said: “It’s always nice to score goals from a personal point of view but I think as soon as you get that goal it, not settles nerves, but you know that you can relax and play your game. It knocked the stuffing out of them, especially getting the second goal so quickly after the first.”

Ton boss Jim Duffy made a couple of tactical changes against Beith, reintroducing Michael Tidser and Lee Kilday to the starting 11 after both players had suffered injuries earlier in the season.

And Forbes admits both these players, as well as others in the squad, have been unlucky that recent form has them on the bench.

He said: “Michael and Lee are two very, very good players. They’ve been very unfortunate that they’ve had injuries and that the team have been winning, so it’s been hard for them to get back in.

“But they played really well and obviously Michael got a goal as well, so that was really good.”
