RICKI Lamie believes St Mirren are due a decent run of form under new gaffer Jack Ross — but he is adamant it won’t start on Saturday against Morton in Paisley.

Lamie reckons St Mirren have improved since the last Renfrewshire derby, when they were battered 3-1 by an impressive Ton, a result that put an end to 17 years of derby hurt for Cappielow supporters.

The defender is of the opinion that with the talent the Buddies have at their disposal, it may not be long until they start putting more points on the board.

He told the Tele: “In terms of going out and playing, table standings and past results go out the window in a derby game. It’s the same in any derby I think, and it’s whoever wants it more on the day.

"Obviously St Mirren have picked up their form in the past four or five weeks.

"I’ve not seen any games of course but from what I’ve heard they’ve been playing better and maybe not picking up the results they deserve.

“They’ll be looking — as anyone who is at the foot of the table would be — for a boost and to kick on. And at this time of the year it’s the ideal time to do it.

"So we’re well aware that it will be a tough one but we need to approach it as any other game in the Championship. There’s always the extra emphasis on it being a derby - so we’ll be raring to go.

“They’ve got an abundance of talent, especially in attacking areas.

They’ve got goals in them and have a full squad, so they’ll be looking for a run of results like we’ve done ourselves.

“As long as that run doesn’t begin on Saturday, that’s our job to prevent.”

Lamie insists that bragging rights play a big part in games like this one and he’s desperate for Morton to keep them after the previous fixture.

He said: “You have to touch on the bragging rights because that’s always the extra stake when you go into a derby match.

"There were a lot of chuffed punters at Cappielow not too long ago and I think it’d be even nicer to get another good result away from home.”
