MARK Russell says any potential new signings at Cappielow will be made to feel welcome — because the current squad are a welcoming bunch.

Ton are in the market for a new striker to bolster their front line, and Russell believes that any player who walks through the doors will be immediately greeted with open arms by the team.

He told the Tele: “I’d imagine it will be easy for any potential new players coming in through the door, they would just introduce themselves, and become one of the boys from there.

“I’d say that all the boys in the changing room get on really well. We’re all pals off the pitch as well, so that helps us on the park too.

“We would welcome players to come in and see how they get on.”

The defender reckons his boss Jim Duffy is right to be on the look-out for new talent, despite how well Ton are doing — sitting third in the Ladbrokes Championship.

He said: “I do think you can always add to the squad, no matter how well you’re doing. I think any opportunity that comes up, the manager will have a look and try to bring them in.”

Dumbarton are the visitors to Greenock this afternoon, and Russell is aware of the danger that the Sons of the Rock will pose.

But Russell has no fears going up against Stevie Aitken’s men.

He added: “It will be a very, very hard fought game. They always seem to set up well and try to defend against most teams. But then again, we always seem to do well against Dumbarton so hopefully we can continue that this weekend.”

Asked if he’d be looking for another goal to add to his tally against Dumbarton this season, Russell replied: “Hopefully! I’ll try my best.”
