ANDY Murdoch reckons Morton’s ability to see out the victory against Dumbarton at the weekend showed their mettle amidst a growing injury crisis at Cappielow.

Ton were missing the crocked Jai Quitongo, Gary Oliver and Ricki Lamie on Saturday.

Jamie McDonagh was suspended and fans’ favourite Gavin Gunning had travelled down south to meet up with his new team-mates at Grimsby Town.

Murdoch believes the spirit of the current squad got them over the line against the Sons — because they worked themselves into the ground to keep momentum going, despite Kudus Oyenuga also suffering a hamstring problem just 10 minutes into the clash.

Speaking exclusively to the Tele, Murdoch said: “I’d say we felt a greater sense of accomplishment rather than relief, because we worked so hard and it would have been very disappointing if we didn’t get anything out of the game.

“There was a sense that we got the job done. We went out to do that job and win, and we’ve done that.

“It definitely was a tough performance. To lose Kudus in the first 10 minutes didn’t help and I thought Dumbarton were a lot better on Saturday than the last time we played them.

“They had spells in the game here and there but I thought we did enough in the end to get the result.”

Morton’s home form has been talk of the Championship so far this season, with their last league defeat at Cappielow coming all the way back in March against Raith Rovers.

Murdoch insists their unbeaten run at home has been an aspect the club to be proud of — and a perfect platform for their push up the table.

He said: “It’s been since back in March, I don’t know quite know how many games it’s been since we last lost at home.

“If you’ve got a good home record and can get something from that, it’s a good starting point, good building point and you’ve got to go from that.”
