GARY Oliver insists Morton are desperate to launch another cup run by beating Falkirk at Cappielow on Saturday — even though they’d rather be building momentum in the league.

Ton square off against the Bairns at the weekend in the Scottish Cup fourth round.

While the striker says they would love to repeat the success of their Betfred Cup campaign which saw them reach the semi-final, he admits they would prefer to keep adding to their string of impressive results in the Ladbrokes Championship.

He told the Tele: “We probably would have preferred a league game this weekend to keep the run going. But it’s just another game.

“We want to keep the momentum and winning mentality going just now.

"The cup can take you to big rounds and games like it did in the Betfred Cup. We got a lot of joy out of that, so hopefully we can have the same bit of luck and joy out of this cup run.”

He smiled: “Hopefully we can get to the final of this cup, go one better!”

Oliver insists that while Ton are happy to have been drawn at home, playing the Bairns for the third time already this season has the 21-year-old wishing they were facing a team from a different division.

He added: “I actually think we’d probably have preferred to play a team in a different division because we’re playing Falkirk who are obviously in the same division as us.

“It can get quite repetitive playing against the same teams all the time, I’d rather we were playing a Premiership side or a smaller team from a lower division.

“But we’ll play our usual game and hope we make it through to the next round.”
