ROSS Forbes says he was delighted to bag his eighth strike of the season against Falkirk on Saturday — because he’s been desperate to add goals to his game.

The midfielder also picked up his 16th assist of the campaign after laying on Jamie Lindsay’s opener, and is thrilled with his personal contribution to Morton’s season so far.

But he acknowledges that the full squad are to thank for Ton’s excellent season, which includes challenging for a play-off place in the Ladbrokes Championship, a Betfred Cup semi-final and a Scottish Cup fifth round tie with Rangers next month.

He said: “That’s eight goals for the season and that’s something I was wanting to add to my armoury.

“And between that and assists, it’s definitely something I’ve managed. I’ve got 16 assists, so that’s decent.

“It’s a contribution, but it’s not just me. You see everyone playing well.

Not everyone will score goals or get assists but they’re just as important in the middle of the park or at centre-half. It’s a team game at the end of the day.”

Forbes and central defender Thomas O’Ware are both battling it out to be named Ton’s top scorer for the season, which is strange in itself given that Forbes is a midfielder and O’Ware a centre-half.

He smiled: “You wouldn’t have got a bet on that [at the beginning of the season]! But everyone is chipping in with goals and it’s not just the strikers. Look at Nizzy [Nesbitt], he’s playing up front and he’s not even a striker.

“He’s played really well.

“Gary [Oliver] has been brilliant since he’s come in and he plays his part in the team. We’ve got a good squad and you can see the strength on the bench.

“It’s good to play with people like Gaz and Nizzy because they’ve got real pace and can drive at people — you know you’ve always got a chance with that.”
