MORTON boss Jim Duffy was left frustrated as the transfer window closed last night with no new arrivals at Cappielow.

The Ton manager had hinted at the weekend that there was a chance he could add to his squad.

But the deadline came and went with no new recruits, leaving loan man Lawrence Shankland as the club’s only addition during January.

Duffy, pictured, revealed that he had made enquiries and established contact with a few players but told the Tele that those moves fell through.

He said: “We looked and made enquiries about a couple of players but unfortunately it hasn’t come to fruition.”

The Ton boss has, however, refused to rule out the prospect of new signings between now and the end of term, adding that there ‘might be scope for some players out of contract’.

Duffy says the club backed him to the hilt in his attempts to bolster the squad, only for signing targets to go elsewhere rather than help Morton’s play-off push in the Ladbrokes Championship.

He said: “We never lost out on any players because of finance or the club not supporting me, I’ve had 100 per cent support from them.

“Last week we spoke about the boy [Dylan] Bikey who eventually signed for Hearts.

“There were a couple of other players who have went to Premiership clubs in Scotland that we spoke to, so it’s just about levels.

“Sometimes if a player elects to go to the Premiership there’s not a lot you can really do about it, from a football point of view and a financial point of view.”

As he reflected on the closure of the window, Duffy was keen to point out that his current pool of players are performing very well indeed, having taken the club to third position in the table — just three points behind Dundee United with a game in hand.

He said: “We worked hard and looked at different situations but I’m not too disappointed because I’ve got a good group of players and some good options among that group.

“The likes of Kudus Oyenuga will be coming back within a week or two, so we’ve got options available to us anyway.

“I think we’ve shown over the last couple of weeks that we’ve got good players in our team.”
