MORTON right-back Michael Doyle says he’s enjoying playing with playmaker Ross Forbes in front of him on the right-flank — because it has allowed him to adapt his game for the better.

Forbes — a natural central midfielder himself — has moved out wide to accommodate the central midfield pairing of Andy Murdoch and Jamie Lindsay.

The swap has proven to be a stroke of genius from manager Jim Duffy, as Forbes has bagged 10 goals already this season along with 16 direct assists.

And Doyle reckons his pairing down the right-hand side with Forbes has given him the freedom to go forward more often, and become a better player for it.

He told the Tele: “I think I’ve got a good partnership at the moment with Forbesy in front of me.

“He likes to cut inside onto his left foot, so it gives me that freedom to then try and overlap on the outside.

“You need to always be able to adapt to the different ways other people play.

“But I’m really enjoying it just now, the confidence is growing throughout the whole team and you can see that.

“Obviously if you’re at the bottom of the league some things don’t happen and you want to run the ball into the net, but the boys are all doing well and confident and are playing some good stuff as well.”
