LEE Kilday insists a ‘vital’ clean sheet against Raith Rovers on Tuesday will boost Morton’s confidence ahead of this weekend’s glamour Scottish Cup tie against Rangers at Ibrox.

Kilday netted the only goal against Rovers and was solid at the back as he and his team-mates saw out the game with minimal fuss in Kirkcaldy in midweek.

And the defender believes Ton can now turn their attention to Mark Warburton’s Gers on Sunday after being fully focused on league duty.

He said: “Those are the kinds of three points you need to get in this league if you are going to keep pushing. I thought the boys were brilliant against Raith, it was a terrific defensive performance and everybody worked so hard for each other. We kept a clean sheet and it was vital.

“The Queens match [on Saturday] was not good enough, it wasn’t like us, and we got back to our best in midweek. We showed what we are all about. The energy, commitment and hard work.

“After that win, we can now look forward to a big game at Ibrox. Everybody is buzzing for that. We are confident and hopefully we can get something.

“Getting to the League Cup semi-final, it has already been a memorable season in the cup competitions. And we were at Ibrox last year twice and gave a good account of ourselves, so we can go there with confidence.

“It is almost a free shot, in cup games anything can happen. On the day, the fans can get on their back and if they haven’t taken the lead early then there could be some nervousness. It’s about us going there, playing the way we can and giving a good account of ourselves - and we’ll see what happens.

“They will see the cup as something different to concentrate on, so I’m sure they will be confident, and not thinking about their recent performances.

“These are the games we all want to play in, massive matches - Ibrox, 40,000. That is what it is all about and it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to show people how good we are — it’s on TV as well, which is another bonus.”

Kilday has netted three times in the league this season, but he added: “It was special to get the winner on Tuesday and I’d love to score at Ibrox on Sunday.”
