THREE Morton development squad players will leave the club following the expiry of their contracts later this month.

Thomas Orr, John Mitchell and Alex McWaters — who were all integral players for Andy Millen’s Development League West-winning side of last season — have been identified by Ton boss Jim Duffy as players who will be moved on when their time comes to an end.

Striker Orr has turned out for the first team a total of 12 times, making one start and 11 appearances from the bench during his three years as a full-time player at the club.

The 20-year-old had loan stints at East Stirling, Livingston and BSC Glasgow and made his debut against Stranraer back in August 2014.

Mitchell was an unused substitute in Ton’s recent defeat to Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park but boss Duffy has deemed both he and McWaters surplus to requirements with the season coming to an end.

Duffy said: “I have to say that although I’ve done this hundreds of times as you have to do as a manager over the many years, it’s still a difficult time, particularly when the boys are all terrific boys and give everything.

“Those three boys did give everything. They gave it their best shot, but ultimately I have to make a decision on whether I feel they can go and compete for a first-team place.

“That’s the call I have to make, and I just felt there was a level still to find for them.

“Hopefully, if they get an opportunity elsewhere they can find that level, and we wish them all the best for future.”
