MICHAEL Doyle looks set to finally put pen to paper on a new deal at Morton — saying he hopes to have things wrapped up before he returns from holiday on Monday.

Doyle was one of the five members of Ton’s playing squad offered an extension on their contract following the end of last season.

The other four players — Andy Murdoch, Ricki Lamie, Michael Tidser and Mark Russell — have already signed up for the next campaign.

While the defender is yet to put his signature on the dotted line himself, he exclusively told the Tele from his Florida getaway that he plans to have everything completed before he’s back in Scotland at the start of next week.

And the 25-year-old also revealed how he’s been keeping fit whilst he’s been away in order to ‘hit the ground running’ when he returns.

He told the Tele: “I’ve been in contact with the gaffer throughout my holiday, so I’m hoping everything will be sorted before I come home on Monday.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time off and am really looking forward to getting back. I’ve still been ticking over and doing some running and things like that.

“I don’t think it’s like the old days when you could just have a month off doing nothing and then expect all the weight to fall off you during pre-season.

“It’s important to enjoy your holiday but also be professional so you can hit the ground running when you get back.”
