EDINBURGH City striker Craig Beattie says his side are relishing another step-up in competition as they travel through to Cappielow this afternoon.

Beattie watched from the bench in midweek as his League Two side ran Premiership outfit Motherwell close, only to lose 2-1 in the dying minutes of the clash.

The veteran ex-Celtic forward reckons his team can take confidence from their performance against the Steelmen to give Ton a run for their money.

He told the Tele: “We’re looking forward to it. It’s always a good atmosphere around Greenock, I’ve played there a few times in League One and the Championship, and I’ve really enjoyed it.

“It’s another challenge and it’s difficult for clubs like ourselves to go into this competition, all the part-time or League Two clubs. I think it’s heavily stacked towards the higher division clubs.

“But we did well on Tuesday night against Motherwell. It is hard to draw form lines, we had players coming off a day’s work, we scored the opening goal and then the Premiership team ran out late winners because they had that bit extra.

“That’s the way it is, though, but we’re very much looking forward to Saturday against Morton.”
