JACK Iredale says he is delighted with his Morton debut against Edinburgh City and is already starting to click with his team-mates on the pitch.

The Aussie defender started alongside Connor McManus at the heart of the Ton defence on Saturday and he believes his defensive partner strolled through the action without any problems.

And he put that down to the ‘chemistry’ the pair have in training.

He said: “I thought Connor did very well against Edinburgh City. I hang out with him in training so we already have that little bit of chemistry, so I’m glad we gelled well.

“All the lads are a tight group and we fight for each other and it definitely helps you when you’ve got guys around you that you’re comfortable with.”

Iredale’s parents were in town to see his first game in Morton colours before they jetted all the way back around the world to head home. And he’s glad they were able to witness his debut in person for his ‘hometown club’.

He added: “I was a bit nervous before the game but once it got started I settled in quite comfortably, and it was a really good game to be involved in, a 5-0 win, and good to get a clean sheet.

“My mum is from here and my dad is from England, so I was over here myself for three weeks. But they managed to come up to help me get settled and they’re on their way back to Australia tonight. Twenty-two hours of travel and a two and a half hour stop-over in Dubai.

“I’m very happy they were able to see my debut for Morton.”
