MORTON striker Bob McHugh reckons he and his team-mates earned their day off on Saturday after a busy training schedule last week.

Ton were without a fixture at the weekend due to international action and the fact that they were knocked out of the Irn Bru Cup in the first round against Livingston.

But manager Jim Duffy still had his players in for a full week’s schedule and McHugh says he was happy to have to earn a rare Saturday off.

He told the Tele: “With the weekend away from competitive football it was nice to spend some time with the Mrs. We obviously don’t get many Saturdays off during a season, so it was good to chill out, get a bit of time to ourselves after a really hard week’s training which we probably needed.

“We were worked really hard during the week, which we needed, so to get a couple of well earned days off at the weekend, hopefully that can make all the difference for the weekend to come.

“The weekend off there I feel was needed, in the end, but ultimately it’ll come down to how we perform this Saturday.

“We can look back on it as a good decision if we do the job on Saturday. If training yesterday was anything to go by, the boys look really fit and raring to go. So hopefully it can only be a good thing.”
