MICHAEL Doyle reckons Morton’s away form will be vital to their play-off hopes this season ahead of a tricky test at Tannadice on Saturday.

Ton — off the back of a fantastic 2-1 win away to Queen of the South last weekend — are in confident mood following back to back wins against tough opposition.

Having defeated table toppers Dunfermline Athletic at Cappielow a fortnight ago, there seems no reason to doubt the Greenock men’s resolve.

But while Ton beat the Pars 3-2 at Cappielow earlier this month, Doyle believes it will be their form on the road that will get them over the line towards the Premiership promotion play-offs.

Morton have already picked up points on their travels this season.

Jim Duffy’s men drew 0-0 with Dumbarton on the opening day of the season before being held to a 1-1 draw in the Highlands by John Robertson’s struggling Inverness Caledonian Thistle outfit.

Doyle, 26, insists those types of results may prove crucial in the long run — as long as their home form takes care of itself.

He told the Tele: “In the Championship, everyone seems to have a reputation of being tough to beat at home.

“We went on a really good home run last year and that helped us.

“But it was points that we picked up away from home that got us over the line. It’s the same with the Queen of the South game last week, what a brilliant three points away from home.

“If you look at the other two away games we’ve played as well against Inverness and Dumbarton, they’re two really good points to get.”

The Tangerines welcome Ton to Dundee this weekend and Doyle admits Tannadice is arguably the most difficult venue to play at in the Championship.

But he believes the pressure is all on Ray McKinnon’s men— because they have brought in some big names to catapult them towards the Premiership this term.

He added: “You look at Dundee United being the Hibs of last season, that they’re big favourites. They’ve brought in guys like Scott McDonald and James Keatings.

"They’re trying to make a statement, so to go there and come away with even a draw would be a good point for us. But we’re playing to win.

“Tannadice is one of the toughest places you’ll play, United are the team who have brought in some big players.

“But we’ll go into the game with a good mindset after two good results in a row.

“We’ve won from the front and won from behind, so the confidence is high at the moment.”
