GARY Oliver insists his strike against Rangers on Saturday can kick-start his season for Morton.

Oliver bagged himself a goal against Pedro Caixinha’s Gers and the attacker admits he has been desperate to find the net since the beginning of the campaign to settle his
nerves.

And having come up trumps for his side against a strong Rangers squad at Auchenhowie, the 22-year-old says his confidence is soaring — and he could even have scored more.

He told the Tele: “It was good to be playing against a good Rangers side with some good players and it helped us bounce back from the disappointment of last Saturday.

“It gives us quite a wee bit of confidence, I scored a goal myself as well which is good so it definitely helps give me something to build upon.

“Getting that one goal gives me a good bit of confidence in front of goal again. Especially against Rangers.

“I was actually getting plenty of chances and was finding myself in good positions.

“I should probably have scored maybe another one as well.

“That’s all I can ask for just now, it’s exactly what I want, so it’s good. We were all delighted with how the game went, including the manager.

“Obviously it was behind closed doors but we showed a good attitude and that’s what the gaffer was happy about. That’s all that matters.”

Oliver explained that boss Jim Duffy was also delighted with his side’s performance against Rangers.

He said: “The gaffer was saying to us after the game, if we can do the business against teams like Rangers and play well, there are no excuses against any other teams.

“They have good experienced players but we’ve done really well against them and scored some really good goals.”

Brechin City are the hosts for this weekend’s league fixture for

Ton and Oliver believes the Greenock men must arrive at Glebe Park in the correct mindset.

But the striker reckons that will be no problem for a confident Ton who know they have the quality to give any side difficulties in the Championship.

He added: “It’s about attitude as well, if we’re in our own heads against Brechin and we go out there half-hearted then it will be a really hard game.

“But if we go with the right attitude we’ve definitely got the quality in our team to do well.”
