MICHAEL Doyle insists Morton can’t afford to take Brechin City lightly this weekend despite the Angus club thus far failing to pick up a victory in the Championship.

City are without a win in eight but Doyle reckons Darren Dods’ men are still as dangerous to the Ton as any other club in the league.

And he warned that his side can’t go to Glebe Park tomorrow thinking they are favourites — or they will run the risk of falling short of collecting an important three points.

He told the Tele: “In this league, there are no surprise results.

“Teams at home are always obviously harder to beat. It’s much harder to win away from home.

“Falkirk had their tails up against us trying to impress the manager who was going to come in which proves that, so I don’t think we’ll be going into the game against Brechin thinking we are 100 per cent favourites.

“We like to concentrate on our own game but we will be going in full of confidence, especially after the encouraging signs from the game against Rangers last weekend.

“We’ve worked on quite a few things during the week in training, so hopefully that comes into play on Saturday.”

Doyle believes there is a sense of the unknown from Brechin City, given that they were promoted from League One last season.

And with Morton yet to play them this season, the defender admits they have the potential to cause problems for his side.

The 26-year-old has experience himself of helping his team prove themselves against tougher opposition, having been promoted to the Championship with Alloa Athletic back in 2013.

He says Brechin will be desperate to pick up points on their own pitch to try and have a go at staying up this season.

He said: “With a lot of teams in this league you know what you’re going to get from them. But coming up to this league is different.

“I did it when I was at Alloa, you need to pick up as many points as you can at home and I think Brechin will be concentrating on not losing the game.

“They’re down at the bottom fighting at the moment and for us it’s a new stadium to go and play at. We’ve not played them and the boys are looking forward to it.

“By the other side of the coin we’ve never played them, we maybe don’t know what they’re going to do and they have potential to catch you off guard.”
