MORTON midfielder Connor McManus has revealed the extent of his calf strain and says he’s likely to be out for another few weeks.

McManus was subbed by Jim Duffy in the closed doors friendly against Rangers earlier this month and explained that he initially thought he would be back to playing again in no time.

But the 21-year-old, who missed the Brechin City game last weekend, was disappointed when he attempted to return to first team training — only to find himself in too much pain to continue.

He told the Tele: “Initially I felt it was just going to be an injury that would keep me out a few days. I was hoping this week would be a bit more promising but unfortunately it’s just not going away.

“I think it’s more likely to be another couple of weeks. I was hoping to join back in training on Tuesday but the minute I tried to it felt worse, so it’ll be another few weeks until I can get back involved again.”

As to exactly what happened at Murray Park, McManus recalled: “I made a lunge tackle and I won the ball. I didn’t feel anything at that point but a couple of minutes after that I felt a twinge in the back of my calf.

"The more I ran it progressively felt worse, so we thought we’d nip it in the bud right then and there so as not to make it turn into anything more severe.

“But I’ve maybe not caught it as soon as I would have liked, maybe I didn’t realise. It’s nothing overly major but it will be a couple of weeks before it fully heals.”
