GARY Oliver admits Morton were left feeling disappointed after failing to pick up three points against Dumbarton.

Ton and the visitors shared the points after Mark Stewart had given his side an early lead before ex-Falkirk hitman Bob McHugh netted the equaliser in the second half.

Morton threw everything at their opponents in the second half but were unable to break down their stubborn defence more than once.

Jim Duffy’s outfit dominated possession as well as clear-cut chances against the Sons and 22-year-old Oliver could barely believe that Stevie Aitken’s men managed to walk away from Greenock with a point.

And he reckons on another day if things had fallen more kindly to the Sinclair Street side they would have won the match comfortably.

He told the Tele: “We knew Dumbarton were always likely to sit back even before they scored but when they got the early goal it was always going to be difficult.

“But we should have won the game.

“We did well to get back into it but we should’ve won.

“The second half was a lot more like us after a bit of a poor start but they defended in two banks of four and that was extremely difficult to break down.

“We had a few chances and there was even one where Ricki Lamie put it past the post and on another day that goes
in.

“It was a bit unlucky that nothing really landed to us in the box and on another day I think we win that game maybe 3-1 or 4-1.”

Oliver provided strike partner Bob McHugh with the assist for the front man’s sixth goal of the season.

And the former Hearts attacker believes he is starting to find his form after a difficult start to the season.

He added: “I’ll take my assist just now, I felt back to my usual self a bit on the ball. I felt sharp and the assist helps that.

“Obviously I’m still looking for that goal but hopefully that will come in the game against St Mirren next week.

“It looked at times like we were playing a 4-2-4 formation as Jai Quitongo and Robert Thomson are natural strikers but I felt it worked at times.

“At the end of the day we should’ve taken the three points.

“The game was open for me and it gave me a bit more space than I might normally get.”
