JAI Quitongo admits he takes St Mirren supporters’ abuse as a compliment — because they wouldn’t wind him up if they didn’t rate him.

Quitongo is one of the players to receive stick from the away terraces during Morton’s clashes with the Saints but insists he enjoys the banter between himself and supporters.

The 20-year-old is a self-professed wind-up merchant and delights in giving as good as he gets to Buddies fans throughout the Renfrewshire derby match day.

He says it’s part and parcel of the fixture and that he’ll be focused 100 per cent on what’s going on in front of him on the pitch before thinking about what’s happening in the stands.

He told the Tele: “I thrive in these kind of games and they really fire everybody up. Everyone wants to do well and get a result. We’re really looking forward to it.

“I think it’ll be end to end and it will be fiery. St Mirren will want a good result against us because they didn’t get one the last time.

“The abuse is part of football and I’ve always laughed it off. With the magnitude of the game it actually drives me on a wee bit. The St Mirren fans obviously rate me and think I’m a danger otherwise they wouldn’t be shouting at me!

“Nobody enjoys the banter with the away fans more than me and the boys will tell you that. It’s just about giving as good as you get.

“But first and foremost it’s about focusing on things on the pitch and then everything else that comes with it is just part of the game.”

MORTON’S Championship fixture against Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park on Saturday November 11 has been postponed.

The Pars have requested a new date for the clash due to international call-ups.

Information on a rearranged date will be confirmed once finalised.
