LAST Saturday wasn’t just about the three points against Brechin City for Morton midfielder Gary Fraser.

It was the first time he’d started a competitive game since April 2016, almost two years ago.

The 23-year-old, who signed on emergency loan earlier this month, played the full 90 minutes in Ton’s 2-0 victory, providing the assist for John Baird’s first goal.

And he’s loving being back involved again in first team football, and he wants to do it all again today when they play Dundee United at Cappielow.

He told the Tele: “It was brilliant to be back, especially playing competitive football.

“I’d played three 90 minute games with Partick Thistle, but it’s not the same as the first team game, it was brilliant.

“It felt great, especially after the game. It’s the light at the end of the tunnel to finally get that full 90 minutes.

“There’s no better feeling than going and playing football on a Saturday.”

It ends a tough time for the midfielder, with his Grandad John also passing away, adding an already difficult period trying to come back from such a severe injury.

But he was thankful to Thistle manager Alan Archibald and Morton boss Jim Duffy for allowing him to come out on loan to get some game time, as he targets promotion with his new side.

He added: “It was horrendous, I’ve had an absolutely horrendous time. I need to thank Jim Duffy and Alan Archibald for what they’ve done. Jim’s given me the chance so I need to repay him.

“My grandad passed away, he brought me up and then I’ve had problems on and off the pitch, and with the injuries as well it’s been really hard.

“I’ve bounced back though, I’ve bounced back from everything that’s come my way, and I’m just enjoying playing football again.

“I didn’t really want to sit on the bench, I’d rather be playing every week and playing with Morton to try and help get them promoted.

“I want us to finish as high as we can and get up as high in the table as we can.”

Ton sit in third in the Championship, with Dundee United just one point behind in fourth, but have two games in hand.

United however haven’t had the best form of late, winning only one of their last seven matches in the league.

But the midfielder reckons the Ton have more than enough to see off their opposition today.

He said: “It’s a massive game. We’ve got enough in that dressing room to go out and win that game, so if we work hard and fight for each other, and hopefully come the final whistle we’ll be happy.

“You can talk about other teams but it doesn’t matter how they’ve done or we’ve done, it’s about who turns up on the day, and hopefully it’s us.”
